Your sponsoring faculty member or department should notify your program's business manager and/or human resources representatives that you will be a future "Visiting Scholar" (Notification should occur at least 1 month prior to arrival.)
The agreement or contract between the visiting scholar and the sponsoring department/college determines what level of access a scholar will receive. Scholars have to be onboarded into UC's human resource and data operations systems for that to happen. Visiting scholars typically receive faculty level privileges, which can be reviewed here or below.
After you have been entered to the UC's Human resources system, you will receive a username (your 6 +2) and receive your University of Cincinnati I.D. card (Bearcat Campus Card) in Public Safety. Subsequently your card can be activated to act as your library card*.
Use your University of Cincinnati I.D. card for checking out materials and for printing. You need to deposit money for printing on the card.
Faculty Borrowing Privileges
UC Faculty may borrow a maximum of 1000 Items and have a maximum of 100 holds.
Privileges listed here are the same for faculty affiliates and emeritus faculty.

*The UC ID card does not automatically grant you library privileges.
Once you obtained your library privileges, you may use any valid picture I.D., such as a driver's license, to check out materials. For printing you may purchase a card from a Bearcat Campus Card machine (also known as a Transfer Value Station) for $1 and put money for printing on it.
At the University of Cincinnati, you can access many services and login to library resources using the same username and password.
If you have not setup your PSS profile and are not sure what your password is, please contact the IT@UC Service Desk at (513)556-4357.
Many library resources are licensed from vendors that limit access to UC faculty, staff, and students.
Access to licensed library resources requires authentication by logging in with your UC username + password and Duo two-factor authentication. You will be prompted to login when you try to access a licensed resource.
Teaching faculty may place books, maps, packets and other supplemental materials on reserve for their class. These items are available for use in the library for short increments of time, to ensure equitable access to those items.
The library's online catalog will tell you if an item is a reserve item. If you know your class has items on reserve, you can search in the online catalog for reserve materials by course and by instructor.
If you select the same library location for picking up the book as the one where the book is located (for example, you request a book from Langsam stacks to be delivered to Langsam Circulation), the request will be cancelled.
If you have an email account, you can submit an interlibrary loan request. If you do not have an email account, contact your program’s business manager. The login and password information needed for an email account is the same information needed to submit an Interlibrary Loan request.
