Links to search screens

Links to a specific record

  • Search for the item in the catalog and click on the title to open the full record. (This would include records for items put on traditional/print reserves).
  • On the record screen locate the "Permanent link to this record" link:

Copy the permanent link URL and paste it to your course page. Directions for adding a link to a course page.

Use this option to link to e-books. When linking to e-book records, please note the following.

  • You cannot create a link to a specific chapter in an e-book.
  • Some e-books allow only single user access. If multiple user access is desired, please discuss this with your subject librarian.
  • Please let your students know that for accessing e-books off-campus they need to login via VPN. UC VPN information.

Links to search results

You can create a link to a specific subset of materials by searching the Library Catalog and linking to the resulting URL. It can be a list of items by a certain author, on a certain subject, or results of a search with limiters applied.

Example 1: results list for the subject "Educational Technology."

Display the results and copy the URL from the address bar into your course page. Directions for adding a link to a course page.

Example 2: results list for a keyword search "feature films" limited to language "Chinese" and videos/DVDs.

Perform a search and copy the URL from the address bar into your course page.
