The Criminal Justice Resources guides provide links to a wide range of resources to facilitate course work, scholarship and career development.

Why use dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks and other reference tools?

These types of resources can be very useful at the beginning of your research or when you venture into subject areas for which you have little or no knowledge.  Use these resources to:

  •     define unfamiliar terminology
  •     identify additional or synonymous keywords to augment your search terms 
  •     find background information
  •     retrieve bibliographies that identify additional resources
  •     find review essays that provide current thinking on a topic or field

Oxford Handbooks Online -- Criminology and Criminal Justice Module

The Criminology and Criminal Justice module of the Oxford Handbooks Online (OHO) offers over 260 signed and peer reviewed articles, each providing a survey of the latest scholarship in a specific area of research.  Articles are sortable for versatile browsing, and the full text of each article is searchable.  Additionally, each article may be viewed either as a PDF or via the OHO platform.  The OHO platform provides links from keywords and internal references in each article, providing you with additional relevant resources.
