Guide to accessing and using UCL ebook resources

ebrary

ebrary is an internet platform housing thousands of e-books purchased by the UC libraries.  ebrary's use is restricted to UC students, faculty and staff.

ACCESSING EBRARY BOOKS

On Campus:   Go to ebrary or search the library catalog or SUMMON

Off campus: Log in to the proxy server first or be logged in to SSLVPN.

VIEWING BOOKS ON EBRARY

EBRARY QUICKVIEW READER:

Is the default reader and can be used within your browser on any computer or mobile device.

EBRARY PLUG-IN READER:

The ebrary Plug-in Reader runs inside your web browser and is available on Windows and Mac OS. You download and install the Plug-in Reader as a browser plug-in. The Plug-in Reader performs essentially the same task

DOWNLOADING BOOKS

Due to copyright restrictions downloading full books is not allowed

PRINTING/COPYING

You can print pages using the reader's "InfoTools" Button or print in the ebrary reader for better quality printing (Do not use the browser print button or menu item)

There is a limit to the number of pages you can print, the limit will be given once you click the print button. (Print limits are set by the document publisher)

You can select text and copy it to another application. The paste operation adds a bibliographic citation of the source material with a link to the page in the document where the information was obtained. (Maximum of one page of text can be copied at one time. Images cannot be copied)

BOOKSHELF  (Store books, annotate, highlight, search, etc...)

To take advantage of ebrary's full functions you can create a free account as a UC user. Once you have an account you can add books to the bookshelf from the search results or from InfoTools. You can organize documents into folders and annotate or highlight while using a book and the annotation or highlights will be added to your bookshelf.

CITING OR SAVING INFORMATION WITH REFWORKS

ebrary is integrated with the EndNote and RefWorks products for collecting bibliographic information. You can save information for your current document or for all documents in a folder on your bookshelf. UC students can have accounts with RefWorks but they must enable RefWorks in ebrary by going to "settings".
