RefWorks (Legacy)

Information about setting up and using a RefWorks account

Brief Overview of RefShare

How to Share Your References

RefShare provides UC RefWorks users with the ability share their RefWorks database or just specific folders (print instructions) or even subfolders from their RefWorks personal database with single individuals or with anyone who has access to the Web.

Customizing RefShare

RefWorks offers a wide range of options with which you can control how your RefShare references can be used.   These options enable you to maintain complete control over how viewers see and use your RefShare data.   You can distribute your RefShare data as a Web link, an RSS feed or simply via email.  Additionally, you can enable, disable or modify options for viewing,  printing, commenting, exporting and accessibility of full text access.

Additional ways to collaborate

In addition to using RefShare to share information, there are several other ways you can collaborate with research partners.

Sharing with individuals affiliated with the University of Cincinnati

  1. Provide another UC user with a "Read Only" password to your RefWorks account
    •  Use the "Update Profile" option in RefWorks to create a "Read Only" password.
    •  Provide your research partner with your RefWorks account name and the "Read Only' password.
    • (Users with read-only access will be permitted to search, export and create bibliographies. They will not have permission to edit references or import references or change folders.)
  2. Share your RefWorks account
    • Simply provide your account name and password with any UC user who is a co-colaborator.  Everyone using the account will have full permissions to perform all RefWorks functions.

Sharing with individuals NOT affiliated with the University of Cincinnati

All UC RefWorks users have the ability to "export" references, folders or their whole database as a file and send that file to another RefWorks user or even to a user that utilizes a different personal information management system, e.g., EndNote or Reference Manager.  See the RefWorks tab about "Backing Up Your Refworks Database."
