Law Faculty Guide to the Law Library

Welcome to the Robert S. Marx Law Library! This guide is intended to introduce you to the many ways that the Library can assist you to succeed in your teaching and research!

The College of Law has moved to a new building! Most of our print materials are located in the basement. Our stacks are currently closed due to the move but you can still use UCLID, the online catalog, to find and request materials.

You may return your materials at the circulation desk in the Library Service Suite (room 100). Renewals may be made through the online catalog. Check your account and renew books through My Library Record

 You can access UCLID from any computer connected to the Internet whether on-campus or off-campus.

You can use the search box below to see if a book is available in our library or another UC library. 

When you find a title through UCLID, the online catalog, that is owned by another library:

  • Click on the Request button. 
  • Enter your username and password
  • Select Law Library as your pick-up library
  • Click on the Submit button.

The book will be delivered to the Law Library and we will deliver it to you when it arrives. Be aware that it may take 3 or more days to arrive. The Law Library does not have the authority to waive fines from other libraries. Check your account and renew books at My Library Record

OhioLINK Catalog Search

If a book you want is not available at UC, you may be able to find and borrow it through the OhioLINK.  Be sure and check UCLID first.  OhioLINK is also accessible through UCLID (click the search OhioLINK button).

When you find a title that is owned by another library:

  • Click on the Request button. 
  • Enter your username and password
  • Select Law Library as your pick-up library

WorldCat Catalog

If a book you want is not available in UCLID or OhioLINK, you will need to submit an Interlibrary Loan Request.

  • Find the book in WorldCat (use the box below for a simple search, use the WorldCat Advanced Search for more search options).
  • Contact your liaison with the information you found in WorldCat. Note that the Law Library does not use ILLiad at this time.

How Long Can You Keep Something Checked Out?

Note that periodicals and reference materials do not circulate and out student circulation desk staff cannot override the system. If you need to check out law material that does not normally circulate, please contact Susan Boland, Associate Director of Public and Research Services or your liaison so that arrangements can be made.

Paying Fines

The Law Library does not have the authority to waive fines from other libraries. Check your account and renew books at My Library Record. Please note that for books where a replacement charge has been billed (30 days overdue), even if the book is later returned there will be a $50 billing fee.

The Fine Appeal Committee (for the entire UC library system) reviews fine charges that patrons wish to appeal. To appeal a fine, complete the Fine Appeal Form. The fine appeal form can be e-mailed to the Circulation and Multimedia Services Department at uclibcirc@ucmail.uc.edu. Payments of library fines may be made by check or money order (payable to the University of Cincinnati) by Bearcat Campus Card (UC ID) at the Langsam Library Circulation Desk, or by mail at: Circulation and Multimedia Services, Langsam Library, PO Box 210033, Cincinnati OH 45221-0033. Payments can also be made with a Bearcat Card by phone at (513) 556-1424. They do not accept cash or credit.

Document Delivery

The Law Library offers a document delivery service to faculty that allows faculty members to have library materials delivered directly to their mailboxes or offices. Requests can be submitted at the Circulation Desk and through your library liaisons.

Library staff members will also pick up books that need to be returned to the Law Library or other libraries. The cart for this service is located near the faculty mailboxes. Please send books from other libraries to the Law Library at least 3 business days before the due date.
