SoTL Research Process

This guide describes the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research process and resources available through the UC Libraries, the Center for Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and the Institutional Review Board.

Publishing your Work

Several journals exist dedicated to the publication of SoTL research.

Presenting at a conference is also an excellent way to share research findings.

For more information on SoTL conferences, please refer to the UC Libraries research guide on SOTL resources.

Researchers can use the following principles of good practice in SoTL (Felten 2013) to assess their quality of their research.

  • Inquiry focused on student learning
  • Grounded in context
  • Methodologically sound
  • Conducted in partnership with students
  • Appropriately public
