How to Use the Online Catalog

Basic instructions and tips for finding music materials in the online catalog

How to Restrict your Search Results to Specific Formats

You may have noticed that we tend to have many more recordings of some pieces than scores. For this reason and others it can be helpful to restrict your search results to a particular format. There are two ways to do this.

You can make this a part of your initial search, from the Advanced Search menu. Under the Add Limits option you can make general choices under Material TypeFor example.

  • Books
  • Music Score

Or by choosing the category "ALL" under Sound Recording or Videos
(note: these options are NOT under Material Type)

In these categories, you can also make very specific choices, like CD Only or LP Only or DVD Only.

The other option is to limit by format after you search. This can be done from the drop down options at the top of the page.

REMEMBER: The system will retain your choice for every search thereafter until you change it again (even to your next search session!).
