Open Educational Resources at Clermont

Your library home for information about open textbooks and open educational resources (OER) at Clermont College.

Are Library Resources Open Educational Resources?

Are library resources OER? No.

Online content provided by UC Libraries, including e-books, online magazines, newspapers, and journals, and access to our databases is limited to UC students, faculty, and staff. This content is licensed, not freely available, and cannot be adapted, modified, redistributed, or shared outside of the UC community.

However, you can make library resources available to your students at no cost to them by linking to them or embedding them into your courses.

How Can I Use Library Resources?

UC Libraries provide a wealth of electronic resources you can embed into your courses. If you need assistance with finding appropriate resources or embedding them into your course, use the Contact Us tab page and reach out to your department's library liaison. You can also see the following linked guide for technical assistance.

Articles from Magazines, Newspapers, and Journals

Use articles to provide students with up-to-date information not included in textbooks, pivotal studies in your field, or current events. We can help you generate a persistent link to the article to embed in your course.

Images, Video, Audio, and Other Media

The library provides access to multimedia from a number of sources. You may be able to embed these items directly into your course so students don't need to click away from Blackboard.

E-books

Use library e-books in your course. This may work best if you are assigning a book chapter as opposed to the entire book. Be aware of limits to the number of users who can access a book at once. You can link to the book directly from your course in Blackboard.

A sample of the library's e-book collections is shown below. The library provides a complete list of databases that include e-books. You can also limit catalog searches to e-books only.

Library Instructional Videos

The library also provides instructional videos about information literacy and using library tools. Don't see one available that meets your needs? Contact your library liaison to discuss developing a video.
