Research Impact, Citation Analysis & Altmetrics

This guide provides information on assessing the impact of research and HSL resources available for citation analysis.

Introduction

This guide is designed to bring tools, information, sources and tutorials on citation research together in one place.

The field of bibliometrics is increasingly being used to evaluate the impact of a scholar's work or the importance of a journal in a particular field. Though citation counts and journal impacts are only one way to evaluate research impact, the information provided here will help you prepare for this aspect of the evaluation and review process.

This guide's content and template is a modified version of a guide created at Arizona State University's Library by Lydia LaFaro and Linda Shackle. The original guide can be viewed here. Thank you to the librarians who created the original guide and permitted us to use its content for this UC guide.
