Library Guidance for Faculty Publishing and Assessment

Overview

This guide is intended to introduce you to the many ways that the Law Library can assist you in getting published. This guide has been adapted from the http://librarybestbets.fairfield.edu/facultypublishing/.

Deciding Where to Publish

The first step in publishing is to review a list of journals, which will help you decide where to submit your article. Consider the following factors when deciding where to publish:

  • What audience do you want to reach (for example, practitioners, legal scholars, interdisciplinary scholars, international audience)?
  • Where does your paper fit? Does the journal publish articles on your topic, does it fit the length and style of your paper?
  • Is the journal you are considering widely distributed (for example, is it available on HeinOnline, Lexis, Westlaw, EBSCO, etc.)
  • Is this a journal you have read and found useful?
  • How quickly can the editors publish your work?
  • Can you submit to multiple journals simultaneously or do they require single submission?

The following resources provide current listings of journals.
