Step 1: Watch Mapping Research Ideas Tutorial + Create Concept Map

This short video walks you through mapping an idea into a research topic.  You'll also find a concept map template (Microsoft Word) that you can easily download and use for your team topic.  A concept map helps you visually organize your ideas.

Reminder: Designate a team member to bring completed concept map to the library instruction class.

Step 2: Review Summon Basics

Watch this video as a quick review on using Summon (UC Libraries main search tool).  Bring any questions (either from past use or never used before) to the library instruction class.

Step 3: Watch Types of Articles

Watch this quick video to learn the differences between article types.  This video will help you get ready for the team activity in the library instruction class.

    • Develop strategies for evaluating potential sources
    • Determine types of authority for sources
  3. Search Process & Source Types
    • Determine search process and find 2-3 potential sources
    • Determine type of source and note characteristics
    • Evaluate sources
  4. Discussion
    • Choose one source
    • Post notes on board
    • Take picture of notes
