Using Library Resources

The UC Libraries offers search tools that you can use to find sources for your research project/assignment. A great place to start your search is Summon. You can search for research resources like ebooks, articles (e.g. scholarly, magazine, news), streaming media, and more.

Start Your Search in Summon

  1. Watch Summon Basics video for overview on how to use search tool (1:38 minutes)
  2. Go to Summon (use search box located on this page or go to Articles tab on UC Libraries website)
  3. Enter keywords about your research topic/question into search boxes (use keyword worksheet from 1.Your Topic) 
  4. Depending on number of results, limit search by type of source (e.g. ebook, news, magazine, scholarly & peer review)

Important: Once You Find Potential Sources 
Take a close look at the source to determine quality of the information as well as appropriateness for your research project/assignment. Keep in mind that not every source is the best one to use, even if it's on the research topic. The following page on this guide can help you -- 4. Evaluate Your Info.
