UC Libraries offers search tools and subject databases that you can use to find sources for your research project/assignment.These tools are an organized system with advanced search capabilities using limiters/filters and include options to email and cite.

Starting Point
Summon is a multidisciplinary search tool for finding articles (e.g. scholarly peer review, magazine, news), ebooks, streaming media, and more.

Subject Databases
For targeted searching in a specific subject area (e.g. Sociology).

Remember: login via Off Campus Access (go to Off Campus Access page on this guide)

Start Your Search in Summon

  1. Watch Summon Basics video for overview on how to use search tool (1:38 minutes)
  2. Go to Summon (use search box located on this page or go to Articles tab on UC Libraries website)
  3. Enter keywords about your research question into search boxes (use keyword worksheet from 1. Research Question)
  4. Depending on number of results, limit search by type of article (news, magazine, scholarly & peer review)
  5. Click link to read full text of article (PDF and/or HTML formats)

Important: Once You Find Potential Sources
Take a critical look at the source to determine quality of the information as well as appropriateness for your research project/assignment. Keep in mind that not every source is the best one to use, even if it's on the research topic. The following page on this guide can help -- Evaluate Info.
