LexisNexis offers two applications for recording and analyzing features of a case. CaseMap allows you to record all relevant details for a case, including persons, facts, documents, physical evidence, issues, and nearly any other useful information. You can then create reports that help analyze the case by organizaing around one type of feature. There is a Summary Judgment Wizard that prompts you through organizing the facts to support a motion for summary judgment. Reports can be exported to PDF.
TimeMap lets you record all the events in a case and then display a timeline graphically with the dates and events clearly identified. Here is an example of a timeline view from an employment law case.
Both TimeMap and CaseMap are available for Microsoft Windows for free download as part of the CaseMap Suite. You'll find them by going to Faculty Resources once you login to the law school portal for Lexis Advance.
Timestream is a new entrant to the time mapping software market. It offes the advantage of being available for both Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X. It too is available for fee use by law faculty and students, and can be downloaded from http://www.ntrepidcorp.com/timestream/. Timestream presents a cleaner, more modern interface that will be especially familiar to users of Macintosh computers. A sample screen is shown below.
