Equity, Inclusion, Innovation, and Impact Student Research at Clermont

This guide supports students participating in the EI3 Student Research Conference at UC Clermont College.

Presentation Basics

When presenting your research poster, keep a few things in mind:

  • Stay close to your poster, but try not to stand in front of it and block someone's view
  • Welcome viewers and say hello
  • Have a short, prepared synopsis of your poster ready to go
  • Be prepared to answer questions about your poster and your work
  • If you are presenting with a group, determine who will speak about which topics beforehand
  • Practice!

The Elevator Speech

An elevator speech is a brief, prepared statement about a subject or topic. In this case, you should prepare an elevator speech about your research poster to introduce people to your topic. Your speech should be about 30 seconds and should cover:

  • What you researched
  • Your findings
  • Their significance

If you are working with a group, arrange who will be giving the speech ahead of time or consider taking turns.
