ENGL 2089: Intermediate Composition (UCBA)

This guide supports the research assignments for ENGL 2089.

Authority is Contextual Video

In English 1001, you were introduced to the concept of evaluating information. Let's build on that concept by considering the different types of authority that may create information sources. The Authority is Contextual video (4:11 minutes) introduces types of authority and the concept of situating a source within the context of an information need.

Source Evaluation and Worksheet

Review these initial questions to determine how well the potential source fits the needs of the project:

  • How will you use this source in your research project?
  • What value does this source add to your research project?
  • Does the information relate to your inquiry research question and/or answer some aspect of it?

The Evaluate Source worksheet (Word file link) helps you analyze sources for your research project. This worksheet can be used with any type of source.

Reminder: Always check with your professor about any source requirements (e.g. type of source, age of source).
