21-Day Anti-Racism Challenge

Welcome

Welcome challenge posterto the U.C. Libraries R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Committee's annual 21-Day Anti-Racism Challenge! This is a three week long self-guided learning exercise that focuses on different aspects of systemic racism, and how we can all fight against them to build stronger communities.

Although this LibGuide is openly available for those interested in the challenge, we highly recommend that you officially register for the challenge here. This helps members of our committee improve our programming year after year. Thank you to all those who register!

About This Challenge

We welcome everyone to join the challenge as they are able, as each week has multiple resources in various media formats:

  • Read: Read an article or paper
  • Watch: Watch a video
  • Listen: Listen to a podcast or other audio format
  • Reflect: Contribute to rich discussions on Padlet
  • Take Action: Make change in your community by taking concrete action

You can choose to engage with the resources that fit your schedule and workload; it is not required to consume them all. We do hope, however, that everyone feels comfortable anonymously joining our Padlet conversations, which provides rich community interaction as we go through this challenge.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. would like to give a special thanks to returning participants. We have taken feedback from last year's challenge, and made small changes to the 2024 program. Our challenge this year focuses on new contemporary issues such as Structural Racism in Mental Health Care, and encourages participants to take action in their communities.

We hope that everyone learns something new so that we can build a stronger, more diverse, and inclusive University of Cincinnati community.

Overview

This year's 21 Day Challenge is comprised of three week's worth of learning resources, with a different topic assigned to each week.

  • Week 1 (June 3rd - June 7th): White Privilege as a Legacy of Racism
  • Week 2 (June 10 - June 14): Structural Racism in Physical and Mental Health Care
  • Week 3 (June 16 - 21): "Not Racist" vs. "Anti-Racist" Ideologies

We encourage participants to engage with each week's learning resources as they are able; it is not required to read, watch, or listen to all resources if time does not permit. At the end of Week 3, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. will host a Zoom meeting to discuss the challenge, what we learned, and how we can take further action to strengthen our communities. This meeting is schedule for Thursday, June 20th from 10:30AM to 11:30AM - Join the meeting through this link! We hope that everyone is able to join and contribute to the rich conversation.

Once again, thank you to everyone for participating, and we hope you learn a lot!
