A docket is a calendar and a table of contents for the materials filed in a court case. Once upon a time, you would have had to go to the courthouse to get a docket. Now most Federal and some state court dockets are available online (but not necessarily free). Examples of documents that can be identified and (sometimes) located by retrieving a trial court docket include: motions, testimony transcripts, jury instructions, worksheets, judicial rulings, expert witness names, and more. This guide will highlight resources for finding dockets online.
Please contact any of our UC Law Librarians if you need assistance in finding or using any of the resources in the guide.
