A docket is a calendar and a table of contents for the materials filed in a court case. Once upon a time, you would have had to go to the courthouse to get a docket. Now most Federal and some state court dockets are available online (but not necessarily free). Examples of documents that can be identified and (sometimes) located by retrieving a trial court docket include: motions, testimony transcripts, jury instructions, worksheets, judicial rulings, expert witness names, and more. This guide will highlight resources for finding dockets online.
