Preventing Student Plagiarism: A Guide for Faculty

Module with a quiz for your students

Your students can learn about plagiarism and ways to avoid it by taking a module, which includes a quiz.

Course version

If you wish to assign the plagiarism module to students who are enrolled in an existing Canvas course or organization which you administer, please follow the steps below.

  • On you Canvas dashboard click on "Canvas Commons" (2nd to last link in the left navigation).
  • Search for “UC Libraries Plagiarism”. You will get a thumbnail for the module (complete title: "Plagiarism: Why Should It Matter to You").
  • Click on the module thumbnail.
  • Click the "Import/Download" button on the right side of the screen.
  • Choose the destination course for the module.
  • Click "Import into Course."
  • The module will appear under "Modules" in the course menu. The “For Instructors” page includes information about editing the module within your course.

Individual version (can be assigned to any number of students; does not involve CMS)

If you assign this module to your students and want to be notified that they completed this module, please contact Olga Hart or Emily Kean to be added to the drop-down menu of instructors.
