How to Choose a Search Tool

There are so many search tools available. How do you decide which one to use? This page compares UC Libraries and online search tools and how they're different from each other.

Keep in mind that there isn't a perfect search tool where you'll find everything you need. Each one has benefits and challenges and it can take practice to find great, high quality sources. But, whether it's from a library or it's an online search tool, be sure to always critically evaluate the information that you find.

Remember: Always review the assignment and check with your professor about source requirements or guidelines.

Comparison of Search Tools

The comparison chart highlights some of the differences between library search tools such as OneSearch and databases and search engines like Google and Google Scholar. To enlarge, click on the Search Tools Comparison image and it will open in a new browser tab.
