Find Patents

This guide is an overview of how to find patents using free, public, and UC Library resources.

Ways to search patents in chemistry

Besides searching in the usual methods (keyword, assignee, owner, etc), patents on chemical formulas or substances can also be searched by Markush structure or by CAS Registry Number.

Markush Structure Searching

Derwent Innovations Index

Derwent Innovations Index does not allow structure searching, but it does allow you to search by Ring Number, Derwent Compound Number, and Derwent Registry Number.
