Open Educational Resources

Open Educational Resources (OER) are openly licensed documents and media that can be used for teaching or research purposes. It is the centerpiece of many initiatives aimed at reducing or eliminating the costs of textbooks and instructional materials. It is useful for MOOCs, distance learning, and hybrid classrooms. There is no single standard format for OER materials and many organizations are experimenting instructional design. Because OER is open source and shared, many groups are collaborating and contributing to create textbooks and media.
