Open Educational Resources at Clermont

About ATIP

The UC Clermont Library designed the Alternative Textbook Incentive Program (ATIP) with several goals in mind:

  • Reduce educational costs by providing free or low-cost learning materials that are available from day one and are customizable to fit students’ learning needs.
  • Encourage and support the adoption or adaptation of OER and other free or low-cost materials as textbook alternatives.
  • Provide technical and financial support for instructors to implement OER in courses.
  • Make learning more accessible while encouraging the adoption of accessible and free or low-cost learning materials.

The program will be available to 6 faculty members to receive a $500 stipend with a one semester course release (or the equivalent dollar amount if ineligible for a course release). For those incentives, faculty would meet with a librarian, convert to a zero-textbook cost course, and produce a final report.

Other Opportunities

Eligibility & Participation Requirements

To participate in the program, individuals must be teaching at UC Clermont college full-time or have taught for UC Clermont part-time for at least 2 years. To be eligible, participants also must be willing to do the following:

  • Replace traditional textbooks with OER as a means to reduce students’ costs and make education more affordable and equitable. Upon implementation of the resulting OER to a course, total costs for course-related materials cannot exceed $40; lower costs are preferred (this includes the cost for students to print the open textbook or courseware system).
  • Articulate plans for making materials more accessible and representative of diverse thought.
  • Plan to implement the OER in class for an entire academic year. The use of OER in more than one section is encouraged to enable widespread adoption and to increase the impact on students.
  • Share the created material with UC Clermont for other instructors to use in their courses.

Applications to the program will be scored on the following rubric:

During their time, participants in the ATIP program will be expected to complete the following:

  • Meet with a librarian and an instructional designer to discuss program expectations, project outcomes, and services available.
  • Successfully implement their proposed plan and meet student cost-saving goals.
  • Place selected materials and supporting documentation (lectures, tests, etc.) in Canvas.
  • Implement accessibility best practices.
  • Submit a midterm progress report and final report with a program evaluation.
  • Oversee a student survey and submit findings.

It is important to note in this program that the library is willing to consider purchasing materials to support faculty conversions but cannot guarantee a purchase is possible. Therefore, participants should be prepared to work with existing OER or library collections.
