Framework for Evaluating Children's Literature

In spring 2024 the CECH Library worked with ASL and Deaf Studies faculty member Emma Kist and her ASL 2003 class (Psychosocial Aspects of Deafness) to create a framework for selecting children's literature with representation of d/Deaf identities.

Once the Framework was created, the University of Cincinnati ASL Club utilized it to select books for children and young adults with representation of a spectrum of d/Deaf identities. CECH Library was able to purchase these titles for the collection thanks to a Diversity Grant from the UC College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services' Office of Inclusive Excellence.

If you find our Framework useful or wish to share feedback, please reach out to cechlibrary@uc.edu
