UC has created a series of Guidelines and Policies specifically for research, including links to further discussion of the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in research. Contact your Library Faculty Liaison with questions.
Publishers are developing and revising policies regarding the use of AI in authorship, images, artwork, figures, graphs, attribution, and in peer review. If considering publishing, editing, or reviewing academic research, always make sure to check the publisher's guidelines, policies, and reporting requirements in advance.
Important: The UCBA Library does not endorse specific publishers. Faculty are responsible for reviewing publisher guidelines and confirming current policies on the publisher’s website, as they may change over time. Note that policies may have specific guidance based on different roles (e.g. author, peer reviewer, editor).
Examples of scholarly publisher policies:
UC Libraries has elected not to turn on any generative AI or “heavy” AI tools in the library databases. However, this is an ongoing evaluation process and will continue to evolve. Updates and/or changes will be posted to this page.
