Across Harvard University, researchers and programs are working to address the grand challenge of the 21st century: to develop secure, safe, clean, and affordable sources of energy to power world economic growth for present and future generations while protecting the environment from the impacts of global climate change. This website is a resource for locating Harvard faculty, fellows, programs, events, and publications related to energy policy.

The Duke University Energy Initiative encompasses a wide range of energy-related research activities undertaken by Duke faculty, students, and research staff. These activities range from projects by individual investigators, to projects partnering Duke research units with outside research institutions, corporations and non-governmental organizations. Through this multi-disciplinary approach, the Initiative encourages problem-centered collaborations that draw from the breadth of Duke’s expertise to make progress on our greatest energy challenges.

The Yale Project on Climate Change Communication (originally the Yale Project on Climate Change) grew out of a groundbreaking conference on “Americans and Climate Change” that the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies convened in 2005 in Aspen, CO. Over 100 national leaders representing science, media, religion, politics, entertainment, education, business, environmentalism, and civil society came together to develop an action plan to engage American society on climate change. Their charge was to diagnose why, in the face of ever stronger climate science, the United States had been slow to act and to recommend a set of initiatives to catalyze action.

Yale Climate & Energy Institute seeks to understand Earth’s climate system and energy resources, and the ecological, economic and social consequences of changing climate and energy regimes. Interdisciplinary research and teaching supported by YCEI aim at helping the world to mitigate and adapt to climate change, while satisfying its future energy needs, with practical solutions and policies that can be implemented at local, regional or global levels.

The Energy Policy Institute at Chicago (EPIC) is an interdisciplinary research and training institute of the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business and Harris School of Public Policy focused on the economic and social consequences of energy policies.

The the Climate and Energy Policy Institute (CEPI) provides an interdisciplinary forum for research on these aspects of climate policy. The Berkeley campus provides an ideal setting for exploring these issues, given its premier standing in the social sciences, engineering, and climate science. In particular, CEPI has a strong link with the Energy and Resources Group (ERG). CEPI draws on all of these campus strengths, as well as the resources of the environmental law center and other Berkeley Law research centers.

The Center on Global Energy Policy provides independent, balanced, data-driven analysis to help policymakers navigate the complex world of energy. We approach energy as an economic, geopolitical, and environmental concern. And we draw on the resources of a world-class institution, faculty with real-world experience, and a location in the world’s finance and media capital.

The Policy Institute is a bold new initiative that supports collaborative engagement at a critical time for decision makers. Governments at every level are under intensifying pressure to promote a healthy, growing economy while simultaneously improving environmental quality, increasing efficiency, diversifying the energy supply, creating greater resiliency to energy disruptions, and responding to climate change—despite shrinking capacity and expertise.

The Climate Legislation Tracker project tracks federal legislation related to climate change. As presented here, it is current through July 2011. Given the limited current prospects for major federal climate legislation, we are focusing our efforts on tracking relevant regulations and progress on Obama's climate agenda.

Launched in November 2011, C2ES is the successor to the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, long recognized in the United States and abroad as an influential and pragmatic voice on climate issues. The Pew Center’s founder, Eileen Claussen, and its senior team continue to lead the effort.

At C2ES, we believe that ensuring safe, reliable, affordable energy for all – while protecting the global climate – is a paramount challenge of the 21st century. We see signs of progress around the world. But far greater effort is needed if we are to keep these challenges from becoming true crises. Now more than ever, we need committed voices with the expertise to cut through complexity and craft innovative solutions; the independence to separate fact from fiction; and the credibility to work with all sides to build common ground.
