Research Labs @ GMP

The Data & GIS Collab

The Data & GIS Collab provides support staff for project consultation as well as space for collaborative work. The Data and GIS Collab is located within the Geology-Mathematics-Physics Library, 240 Braunstein Hall, and offers a public and consult workstation. The Data and GIS Collab gives GIS consultation by appointment or within consultation hours.

 

Workstations:

  • Both the public and consult workspaces are equipped with two high-performance pc workstations, dual 36" monitors and software for data and GIS needs.

Collaborative Spaces:

  • Collaborative spaces are available within the Data & GIS Collab, and outside of consultation hours, the consult workstation is also available for public use. There are also two computers available in the Info Commons in the Geology-Mathematics-Physics Library with ArcGIS software installed for use.

Whiteboards: 

  • Whiteboards are available in the Data & GIS Collab. If you are interested in using the whiteboards, please ask the circulation desk for materials!

   

 

The Visualization Laboratory

The Visualization Laboratory (Viz Lab) provides a suite of research services focused on data science and visualization. Furthermore, the Viz Lab is a space to encourage interactive teaching and collaborative research. The Viz Lab is located within the Geology-Mathematics-Physics (GMP) Library, 240 Braunstein Hall, and offers consultations by appointment. We provide our researcher services to all research levels including undergraduate students, graduate students, post-docs, staff, and faculty across all departments at the University of Cincinnati.

Visualization Wall

  • 4x2 Ultra HD 4K Monitors with a combined 7680 x 2160 pixel display (16,500,000+ pixels)
  • Operated with multiple input options

3-D Mouse

A 3-D mouse is available on reserve for four hour use in the Geology-Mathematics-Physics Library. The 3Dconnexion SpacePilot Pro 3D Mouse 3DX-700036 mouse makes it easier to control 3-D models and scenes. If you are interested please make an appointment by e-mail, at AskData@uc.edu, to check it out!

Map & Large-Format Scanner and Light Table

  • An oversized document scanner is available for student or faculty use and it scans documents in color, up to 36" wide by any length.  Scanned images can be saved to thumb-drive or e-mailed.  There is no charge for scanning.  Please ask library staff for assistance.
  • A 24" x 35" light table is available for student or faculty use. There is no charge for using the light table.  Please ask library staff for assistance.

  

Info Commons Computers Equipped with ArcGIS

Once you are in the Geology-Mathematics-Physics Library you will see a hanging sign to identify the Info Commons area. There are two computers available in the Info Commons area with ArcGIS software installed for use: computer terminals #05 and #06.
