International Dispute Settlement

Sources of international courts and arbitral tribunals, cases and arbitral awards, and rules governing procedure.

Introduction

Dispute Settlement

The purpose of this guide is to help you with research on international dispute settlement. It is heavily weighted toward litigation and arbitration, because they are considered to be the only two that are judicial, because litigation regularly publishes its results, and arbitration sometimes publishes its results.  There are other methods of international dispute settlement such as negotiation, enquiry, mediation, and conciliation, but their results are not available. The sources that are listed are collections of international court opinions and arbitral awards; links to the major international courts and arbitral tribunals; and the rules that govern the courts and arbitral tribunals.

There is one source that can direct you to all the sources, both online and print, that are in all the UC libraries including the Law Library, our online catalog, which is called UCLID.  Directly below here is a search box for UCLID with instructions on its use.

This guide was originally created by Senior Reference Librarian Emeritus Jim Hart. It has since been updated and revised.
