When searching academic library catalogs in the U.S., it is often advisably to use Library of Congress Subject Headings to limit a search. Keyword searching should be avoided when doing research since it frequently gives results that are too broad or even misleading. Typical patterns of LC Subject Headings include:
Latin Literature
Art, Ancient
Greek poetry
Satire, Greek
Theater--Greece
Sculpture, Roman
Names of individual Architecture, Greek
Authors with variant spellings, e.g., Aristotle or Aristoteles--Knowledge--Science
Athens--History
Roman law
Greece--Social conditions--Religion
Women--Rome
Mythology, Roman
Slavery—Greece--History
Cults--Rome
Names of individual rulers, e.g., Marcus Aurelius--Intellectual Life
In the online catalog, you can find the LC Subject Heading under Subject in individual records. If you click on one of them, it will lead you to other relevant titles on the topic, and those in turn will have additional subject headings to explore, etc.
